When tooth decay reaches the center of a tooth that contains all the nerves and blood vessels, it causes severe pain. To save the tooth, a root canal is done. The dentist cleans the tooth center and removes the infection with a thorough cleaning using specific instruments and disinfectants. Once the tooth is clean we pack the center space all the way to the tip of the root. This packing is done using a biofriendly inert material called gutta-percha which is completely safe to use and stays inside the tooth. On top of that, we place a permanent filling thereby sealing the tooth. This entire process is called a root canal procedure.
This process is done by using potent local anesthesia so that the patient remains comfortable during treatment.
For teeth requiring a root canal, Symptoms can vary from person to person but the most common ones are as follows:
With new advances in the field of medicine, root canal treatment is no longer as painful as it used to be. The patient is given local anaesthesia which is fast-acting and very potent. This gives you instant relief from the toothache. We use a combination of anaesthetic gels and solutions to guarantee you a comfortable experience. However, in cases of severe infection that reaches the bone and in case of swelling, we place medicinal dressings inside the tooth which may cause the patient a momentary discomfort. Once the tooth is temporarily sealed with the dressing inside, the pain reduces drastically even when the anaesthesia wears out. The pain is completely gone in a couple of days which signals the healing of the infection.
In case of prolonged discomfort, the patient has prescribed dental analgesics and pain killers. Antibiotics are not all required for routine cases.
So overall, the level of comfort for such procedures is quite good and root canal treatment no longer warrants the bad name it used to have. Painful Root canals are fast becoming a myth.
A root canal treatment is a very technique sensitive procedure which requires a lot of precision. In Ghatkopar East, Mumbai root canal treatment cost varies from dentist to dentist.
It depends on how severe the dental infection is and whether or not the infection involves the jaw bone. The root canal cost varies on the type of tooth involved too. The front teeth and premolars are relatively easy to treat but the molars are complex in their anatomy and hence require a more precise approach. A root canaled tooth usually requires a cap depending on the amount of tooth destroyed by the infection. The dental crown or cap cost is not included in the root canal cost as that is a whole different procedure. In Ghatkopar east, Mumbai the dentist can have a variety of crown types to choose from. You can choose one depending on your budget.
Extractions are way cheaper than the cost of a root canal and a cap but you run the risk of compromising your entire dentition if the tooth is not replaced on time. This replacement will cost you almost twice or thrice the amount for a root canal and a cap.
So in the long run, a root canal, whatever the cost, is completely worth it. A trusted dentist will never choose extraction over a root canal.
